Description: Mariposa County RCD: Mountain Counties FA
Reference Number: 3860-P01-367
Implemented By: Mariposa County RCD
Objective: The objectives of this project are to 1) expand water storage capacity, 2) increase regional self-reliance, and 3) prepare for dry periods by constructing a 165,000-gallon water storage tank at the Bootjack Fire Station in Mariposa County to increase current water storage for firefighting purposes by more than five times. The bolted steel, coated tank would be supplied by upgrading the existing well pump and casing to provide 35 gpm and installing a fire hydrant for filling water tenders, booster pump and backup power generation to ensure operation during wildfires and power outages. This additional storage would reduce the number of vehicle miles traveled out of County to refill water tenders, and shorten the time firefighters were without water supply while they wait for filled tenders to return to the fire lines, thus protecting the watershed and residents from the impacts of catastrophic wildfire driven by climate change and drought.
