The Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Act of 2006 (Proposition 84) provides $45 million to the California Conservation Corps (CCC) for resource conservation and restoration projects, for facilities acquisition, development, restoration, and rehabilitation, and for administrative costs. The $45 million is divided into three categories: $12.5 million to the CCC for projects to improve public safety and improve/restore watersheds, including regional and community fuel load reduction projects on public lands, and stream and river restoration projects; $12.5 million in grants to Local Conservation Corps for projects to improve public safety and improve/restore watersheds, including regional and community fuel load reduction projects on public lands, and stream and river restoration projects; and $20 million for grants to local conservation corps for acquisition and development of facilities to support local conservation corps programs, and for local resource conservation activities.
The first year of funding for this bond program is 2007-08. This first year will be used to develop the criteria and processes that will govern the allocation and expenditure of bond funds. Regulations will be developed though a public process in accordance with the Bond Act and Administrative Procedures Act. Project funding will begin in 2008-09. Information related to the Bond program and regulation development process will be posted on the California Conservation Corps website as it becomes available.
