The project includes replacing the 100,000 gallon storage tank with a 200,000 gallon bolted steel tank and associated infrastructure, construction of a new tank foundation anchored in bedrock, construction of a retaining wall, construction of radio communication tower and foundation, installation of security and control systems (SCADA), improvements to the existing access road, and drainage improvement measures to prevent future erosion and possible destabilization of the tank and hillside.
The project addresses the ranked problem by providing adequate storage capacity for the Big Rock CSD to meet the additional needs of the community and the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The project will also stabilize the tank pad that is seated on an unstable slope. The slope is subject to being undercut by runoff which causes the slope to be susceptible to collapse. The communication tower will provide uninterrupted communication between the tank and the wellhead. The communication tower will also provide the added benefit of emergency radio communication capabilities for the area.
