Project: Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Upgrade & Improvement Project

Description: WWTP has experienced disinfection system problems and violations of effluent limitations for total coliform (23 Most Probable Number (MPN)/100 milliliters (mL) monthly median) and chlorine residual (0.02 milligram (mg)/liter (L) daily maximum). The trickling filter rock media is degrading and needs to be replaced with a high efficiency plastic media to increase five-day Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5)removal efficiency and meet the 30 mg/L monthly average. The WWTP has on-site unlined sludge drying beds that are not in compliance with current policies of the Central Valley Regional Water Board (CVRWB).

Reference Number: 3940C064632110

Implemented By: City of Alturas

Objective: To comply with the new Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) No. R5-2006-0103 by eliminating future violations for total coliform, total suspended solids, and chlorine residual. The Project will create sludge drying beds that are in compliance with the current policies of the CVRWB.
