This project will apply the open-source, unstructured-grid computer model, SUNTANS to the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta. SUNTANS solves the governing equations of fluid flow on a grid that permits fine detail in areas of particular interest in the Delta, while allowing us to include the entirety of the Bay/Delta system so as to properly model oceanic and estuarine influences on the Delta.
Advance the knowledge and understanding of the complex water supply issues and ecosystems of the Bay-Delta system as an aid to Delta policy makers and managers working to achieve the two coequal goals of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem.
