Project: Middle River Intake and Pump Station (formerly known as Alternative Intake Project)

Description: Construct a new pump station, a concrete intake structure, and pipe across Victoria Island with tunneling beneath Old River to the District's Old River Pump Station.

Reference Number: 3860-P84-221

Implemented By: Contra Costa Water District

Objective: The alternative intake enabled CCWD to relocate some of its diversions to a Delta location with better source water quality than was available at CCWD's Old River and Rock Slough intakes. It allowed CCWD to divert higher quality water while not increasing the amount of water pumped from the Delta (rate or annual quantity).
