Project: Redwood Creek Geotechnical Evaluation Project

Description: The project is located in the unincorporated community of Orick, the flood control project consists of a system with two earthen embankment levees with associated infrastructure of approximately 3.4 miles. This investigation will characterize subsurface soil conditions associated with the Redwood Creek Flood Control Project and analyze potential failure risks associated with the embankments and foundations.

Reference Number: 3860-P84-110

Implemented By: Humboldt County

Objective: A levee geotechnical evaluation report is a primary document needed to fulfill the requirements of a Provisional Accredited Levee Agreement with FEMA and is also necessary to achieve levee certification. A geotechnical report will confirm that the levee system can contain the base water surface profile or identify at what level elevation the levee is likely to fail. It can also identify areas for improvement. The objective of this type of project is to produce such a report for each flood control structure evaluated.
