Project: Levee Certification and Modernization Project

Description: This project evaluates many levees scattered throughout San Bernardino County, one of the largest geographic counties in the State of California. Preparation of geotechnical evaluation and testing plan is needed to determine that certain levees within San Bernardino County comply with the requirements under FEMA 44CFR65.10. The total initial geotechnical evaluation amount is estimated to be $2,446,000 with San Bernardino, reaching the grant cap of $1,000,000. San Bernardino has already undertaken inspection of many other levees at their cost.

Reference Number: 3860-P84-106

Implemented By: San Bernardino County Flood Control District

Objective: A levee geotechnical evaluation report is a primary document needed to fulfill the requirements of a Provisional Accredited Levee Agreement with FEMA and is also necessary to achieve levee certification. A geotechnical report will confirm that the levee system can contain the base water surface profile or identify at what level elevation the levee is likely to fail. It can also identify areas for improvement. The objective of this type of project is to produce such a report for each flood control structure evaluated.
