Project: Las Gallinas Creek Levee Project

Description: The Las Gallinas Creek levee system consists of approximately two miles of earthen fill placed on tidal marshland. The levee protects approximately 800 homes in the San Venetia residential development. This Project provides geotechnical engineering services for the evaluation and assessment consistent with the Corps of Engineers (USACE) Publication Number: EM 1110-2-1913, Engineering and Design and Construction of Levees.

Reference Number: 3860-P84-105

Implemented By: Marin County Water Conservation and Flood Control District

Objective: A levee geotechnical evaluation report is a primary document needed to fulfill the requirements of a Provisional Accredited Levee Agreement with FEMA and is also necessary to achieve levee certification. A geotechnical report will confirm that the levee system can contain the base water surface profile or identify at what level elevation the levee is likely to fail. It can also identify areas for improvement. The objective of this type of project is to produce such a report for each flood control structure evaluated.
