Project: Floodplain Evaluation and Delineation

Description: This project will create and manage data sets needed for hydrologic and hydraulic evaluation and delineation of the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP) and State Plan of Flood Control (SPFC) floodplains in the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Basins. The total drainage area for these basins is over 44,000 square miles. An effort of this magnitude has never been completed in California and is critical for enabling the State to: (1) identify expected flooding behind and adjacent to State-federal Project Levees and (2) provide support for urban and urbanizing areas to achieve a goal of 200-year flood protection as mandated by SB 5 (2007). This effort is crucial for flood emergency response and for protecting existing and developing infrastructure and population growth in the Central Valley.
