Project: Alluvial Fan Technical Support

Description: The Alluvial Fan Technical Support (AFTS) Program provides technical alluvial fan support to local communities for land use and development planning. The primary goal of the AFTS Program is to advance the understanding, assessment, and use of alluvial fan flooding and hazard information, including fluvial geomorphic processes that create and define alluvial fans. The development, testing, and evaluation of inundation and sedimentation studies provided by this program will support local planning and land use application required at the community level in evaluating relative risks across multiple alluvial fans for large areas for future development needs. This program will also provide immediate support for post-fire conditions on alluvial fans addressing the potential for increased inundation hazards and alluvial fan mudflow risks. This program is intended to support inundation and sedimentation hazard area maps provided by the Alluvial Fan Floodplain Evaluation and Delineation Project and other future alluvial fan studies.
