By ensuring that the immediate surroundings were not converted to a use that was incompatible with Park operations, Parks was able to protect the State's cultural jewel: a farming community established in 1908 that was founded, financed and governed by African Americans. This outcome of this project furthers a key goal of Parks' Proposition 84 funding, protecting and preserving our diverse cultural heritage by protecting threatened historic sites and visitor serving resources. 2,691.83 acres.
