Project: Mello/Jensen Sandhill Crane Preserve

Description: The purpose of this project is to protect an important habitat essential for the wintering and foraging of the greater sandhill crane (Grus Canadensis Tabida) and lesser sandhill crane (Grus Canadensis Canadensis) in order to sustain the abundance of the crane population by acquiring a permanent easement for the farm owned by the Mello/Jensen heirs. This will safeguard 275-acres of crane-compatible, low intensity, annual cropland on Tyler Island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
