Project: Grazing Management Practice (MP) Implementation and Assessment for Watersheds in the Lahontan Region

Description: This Project will monitor water bodies potentially affected by grazing operations, implement management practices to reduce the discharge of pollutants from grazing operations into surface waters, and evaluate the effectiveness of Grazing Management Practices. Tasks include: selecting and monitoring cooperating ranches using bacterial source tracking and collection and analysis of pathogen samples; determining which best management practices (MP) to implement at each site; and implementing the selected MPs. Management Practices to be used are from the USDA, NRCS Technical guide and include; fencing, filter strips, forest buffers, range planting, sediment basins, wetland enhancements, channel stabilization, and prescribed grazing, etc.
