Project: MPA monitoring program: phase 2 implementation

Description: Conduct scientific peer review of the state's draft Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Action Plan, and initiate a competitive grant program based on the guidance in the Action Plan, administered by CA Sea Grant, that will implement a program of systemic monitoring of the state's MPAs.

Objective: (1) organize and lead a review panel that is charged with evaluating the draft Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Action Plan. The review panel will evaluate the draft plan, provide a written summary to OPC of impressions of the plan, and provide recommendations for modification of the draft plan. (2) When the final MPA Action Plan is approved by the OPC, CA Sea Grant will issue a call for proposals by researchers who wish to implement a program of monitoring of components (specific habitat types and species) within the state's MPAs and reference areas.
