Project: Dept of Toxic Substances Control (Whittier Narrows Treatment for DW End Use) - Construction Project

Description: The WNOU treatment plant provides treatment for remediation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and discharges to surface water. Existing discharge options are limiting extraction rates and plume capture. The Project will allow for increased extraction by utilizing treated water from WNOU for potable water supply. Prior to use, the treated effluent must be blended with other local water sources, to meet water quality criteria for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). The proposed improvements will enable DTSC to pump at the target extraction rate needed to provide containment, treatment, and remediation of VOC contamination in groundwater that serves as a source of drinking water.
