To decrease the likelihood of future wildfires that could create large occurrences of high soil burn severity, reduce the forest crown bulk density, decreasing water lost to transpiration and increasing ground water availability, allow for greater snow accumulations on the forest floor, potentially increasing watershed storage capacity and moderating runoff – benefitting water quality and quantity for local and downstream users.
