Project: Kern County South Shafter Sewer - Construction Project

Description: The Project is the abandonment of the existing septic sewer tanks for six residential communities in the unincorporated area of the County and the construction of a complete full-gravity sewer collection system connecting to the S/NOR WWTF. The six residential communities served by the Project include West Shafter, Southwest Shafter, Thomas Lane, Smith Corner, Burbank, and Cherokee Strip. The communities currently utilize septic sewer tanks that discharge wastewater into leach lines and seepage pits located on individual properties. The continued use of multiple septic tank systems in proximity of local groundwater wells raises concerns about drinking water quality.
