The objective of this Project is to provide safe drinking water to two public water systems in noncompliance with the arsenic maximum contaminant level (MCL). Valley Teen Ranch is under compliance order #CC0002573 because its well produces water which exceeds the arsenic MCL. Golden Valley Unified School District (GVUSD), a public water system serving drinking water to both Liberty High School and Ranchos Middle School, is under compliance order #CC0002759 for exceeding the arsenic MCL.
The Recipient will construct a new well within the Madera County Maintenance District #10A service area and consolidate the public water systems served by VTR and GVUSD, including the separation of their potable and irrigation distribution systems on both properties. Existing wells owned by the subsumed water systems will be converted for irrigation purposes. A master meter will be installed with additional on-site piping and backflow preventers at each site. The project also provides the Recipient with a new hydropneumatic tank, booster pump, and backup generator to ensure water delivery. Upon completion of the construction project, both VTR and GVUSD will surrender their water permits.
