Project: Fish Passage Design at Interstate 5 Bridge Array on Trabuco Creek

Description: Fish Passage Design at the lnterstate-5 Bridge Array crossing Arroyo Trabuco Creek in the San Juan Creek watershed will enable steelhead passage through a significant fish passage barrier in Southern California. Funding for this project will complete technical studies and engineering design to the 65% design level for passage of juvenile and adult steelhead through this barrier. Fish Passeage will reconnect habitats and will contribute to the recovery of the Southern California Steelhead. The primary objective of this Project is to enable steelhead passage through this total barrier at the lnterstate-5 bridge array. The construction of the fishway at the lnterstate-5 crossing, in parallel with the downstream Metrolink project, will restore access to approximately 15 miles of steelhead habitat and will provide 128 acres of improved habitat in the immediate vicinity of the project site through conceptual design for riparian restoration at sites flanking the bridges.
