The Project will ultimately lead to enlarging and reconnecting two existing off-channel features located on the floodplain of Freshwater Creek. This will provide an additional 0.225 acres of non-natal, juvenile winter rearing critical habitat for the federally listed population of Southern Oregon/Northern California Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) (SONCC). Funding for this planning project will be use to obtain the necessary regulatory authorizations from local, state, and federal agencies, fulfill California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) obligations through a Mitigated Negative Declaration with the County of Humboldt as the lead agency, and conduct the necessary vegetative, wildlife and cultural surveys.
