Project: Cardiff Beach Living Shoreline Project Phase 3

Description: The Cardiff Beach Living Shoreline Project will provide natural sea-level rise protection to Cardiff State Beach and Highway 101 by utilizing a “living shoreline” approach that restores four acres of beach dunes. Dune restoration is a useful sea-level rise adaptation strategy because dunes can reduce coastal storm damage by buffering the shoreline from waves and tides. Prop 1 funds are being used to provide up-fronts costs for a grant to the City of Encinitas which will be reimbursed to the Conservancy from a Prop 1 grant from the Ocean Protection Council. OPC grant no. 0540 P01-1-08. The Conservancy is also using its own Prop 1 funds for the project.
