Project: Highway 17 Wildlife Corridor, Marywood Acquisition

Description: The Conservancy provided a grant to the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County to purchase 37 acres in fee and a conservation easement over an additional 133-acres along Highway 17 to facilitate development of a wildlife undercrossing. Acquisition of the easement and fee-title of the Marywood Property will protect watershed resources and wildlife connectivity. The property is located in the upper Bean Creek sub-watershed of the San Lorenzo River watershed. Acquisition of the property would have several benefits, including: 1) securing the last parcel needed to establish a wildlife undercrossing of Highway 17; 2) protection of watershed lands with high infiltration capability; and 3) protection of habitats for species of concern.
