Project: SWSD ET Remote Sensing Instrumentation and Comparison for Agricultural Water Use Efficiency

Description: This technical assistance project will improve the District’s estimation of irrigation water demand, provide field instrumentation for verification of remote sensing ET, develop information for tools that can be used by growers for irrigation scheduling, and provide a Grower Workshop forum for communication to promote improved irrigation efficiency within SWSD. This effort includes 50 percent local cost-share for procurement and installation of two DWR-approved Surface Renewal (SR) weather stations within the District and 26 Tule Tech Stations to collect instantaneous ET ground data at select locations representing crop production within the District. These data will be used to calibrate remote sensing results for ET by crop type, extrapolate ET measurements across the entire district to get a representative estimate of annual ET for three years, and compare this project’s extrapolated ET with ET determined by ITRC.
