Project: Phase I Infrastructure Modernization

Description: This infrastructure modernization project will construct improvements at 14 check structures and lateral canal headings along the Main Canal and Main West Canal distribution systems, including construction of four concrete-lined canal sections. Additionally, project includes furnishing and installing the District SCADA system, including base station, field sensors and power supplies, telemetry, and data management equipment; final engineering and design; contracting; environmental compliance and permitting; training and implementation support; monitoring and verification of expected benefits; and, public outreach regarding ongoing implementation of the project. This project will provide improved water level control, flow control, flow measurement, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and automation. These improvements will allow operators to quickly detect and remove excess flows from the system by reducing main canal diversions, thereby reducing operational spillage. The project will also improve delivery flexibility and steadiness for 22 delivery turnouts along the Main Canal and Main West Canal and 110 delivery turnouts along lateral canals served by the Main Canal and Main West Canal, reducing farm losses to tailwater.
