Project: Hidden Valley Ranch Efficiency and Cold Water Exchange Project

Description: Construction project to reduce ditch loss, improve conveyance efficiency, and exchange warmed surface water for cold spring water to improve water quality and increase instream flow; the project will allow the Dwinnell Ranch to release cold spring water to the river during critical summer periods when Shasta River Coho salmon most need it, and help the Dwinnell Ranch system achieve net conservation benefits as stipulated in the Shasta River Safe Harbor Agreement. The project includes the construction of: a new fish screen at the head of the Dwinnell Ranch diversion; 1,500-feet of 15-inch conveyance pipeline in an open ditch that currently loses approximately 0.5 cfs in ditch loss and evaporation and transpiration (ET); and, 3,300-feet of 12-inch conveyance pipe to provide the ranch warmer surface water delivered from Dwinnell in exchange for cold spring water that will be released to the river via a proposed 18-inch conveyance pipeline.
