Project: Friant-Kern Canal & 8-23 Canal Intertie Pipeline

Description: This project constructs an intertie pipeline and pumping facility to replace an unlined conveyance route and capture surplus unallocated floodwater. A 36” pipeline and pumping facility will be constructed to connect the Friant-Kern Canal (FKC) with the 8-23 Canal Intertie (Project) and provide a path of water conveyance from the District to the FKC. The construction of this pipeline will eliminate the loss of surface water due to seepage (which is estimated to be 11% of the water to be conveyed to the FKC) from the unlined canal and provide a shorter, piped route. A vaulted bidirectional flowmeter with totalizer will record the flow volumes and determine the efficacy of the Project. This project includes final design, environmental compliance and permits, contracting, and labor compliance. Grant funds will be used for a portion of construction activities and equipment costs.
