The CCC crews will use hand tools to conduct fuels reduction work beneath 20 acres of the 59 acre mature sugar pine understory canopy which is vulnerable to lightning strikes. Medium to heavy fuels will be bucked up and carried to the nearest road where they will be incinerated in a curtain burner. This project, in wilderness area, was designed under the guidance of the State Forester and approved by the Department’s Deputy Director.
