Project: Regional Managed Aquifer Recharge and Runoff Analysis in Santa Cruz County

Description: Bond funds will be used to identify opportunities to sustain and improve groundwater supplies by linking stormwater capture to managed aquifer recharge (MAR). The project will quantify spatial variations in suitability for MAR, and assess stormwater runoff based on past, current, and projected future climate and land use conditions to determine potential for capture and subsurface storage. This work will provide practical tools for regional water managers, environmental stewards, and other stakeholders to assist in locating sites for stormwater capture and MAR projects and potentially mitigate against the hydrologic impacts of ongoing and future climate change.
